Quarantine Love: Refresh. Reset. Rejuvinate.
2020 is definitely proving itself to be one for the books. Ironically, I, like so many others, spent most of December 2019 quoting various new year catch phrases, such as ‘2020 is the year of clarity’ or, my favorite, ‘All 20/20 Vision’. Little did we know, 2020 would bring us all that we asked for and more.
The last two months have been an unforeseen, yet vital, period for reflection and shifting. It seems like it’s been FOREVER since we had opportunities to clear the shelves at our favorite retail stores, dine in at our favorite Nashville hot chicken spots, or even patronize our favorite guilty-pleasures—well, aside from Netflix and Amazon. Having been forced to quarantine, in an effort to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, the world was literally forced to a standstill; who knew this was even possible?! No more rushing to get to work by 8, and no more “ripping and running all across town” to get various things done for the household. More importantly, no more subconsciously going wearily through the hustle and bustle of life, expecting different outcomes from the same day to day habits—kinda sounds like the definition of insanity, right?! Gone have been the days of “I ran out of time…” and “I wish I didn’t have to work so much”. Quarantine proved to be the much needed “break” we never knew we needed.
Whether forced to stick to your usual work schedule, work from home, temporarily or permanently stop a stream of income, we have all been affected by COVID-19, regardless of any cultural, economic, or political differences. However, there’s a silver lining in it all.
For years, I’ve sat on so many great ideas--book reads, creative writing, social media marketing, etc.--out of comfort. Not necessarily because I didn’t want to evolve or didn’t recognize that little voice of a cheerleader inside of me, but because, like so many others, it was just easy for me to subconsciously stick to my daily routine and go with the flow. Good or bad, I’d experienced before, so I was always prepared. They say the wealthiest place on Earth is the graveyard, because of all the talents, skills, and dreams that get buried with those who never take a chance on themselves. Quarantine brought about unsolicited and unexpected time to refresh, reset, and rejuvenate. People often say the God works in mysterious ways; and, He lives inside of us. More often than not, we are already more than equipped to thoroughly handle and accomplish ANY thing placed upon our hearts or minds. But, every now and then, God will allow us to go THROUGH something to come out stronger, wiser, and more fruitful. If you come out of quarantine the same way you went in, I think it’s safe to say, you missed the whole lesson.
I’ve always been grateful for my craft and my clients; you all allow me the privilege of making a career out of my passion. And, time away from my career has brought about clarity and a fonder appreciation of even life’s smallest treasures, including the ability to evolve your perspective and start fresh every day.
I hope that you, too, hit the “Reset” button and are feeling refreshed. If not, it’s never too late to start. Take care of you, and become your best self—inside and out. Your future self AND your hair will appreciate it.
Love, XOXO
